| A baby whale went astray into Aharen Fishing Port
in March, 1998. It must have gone astray from its mother, and somehow mistook
a fishing boat for its mother. It seems to have come into the bay chasing
the silhouette of the boat. The villagers tried to return the little one
to its mother. They led the youngster out of the bay. However, when the
boat started to return to the port, it started swimming back to the port
with the boat. The villagers couldn't help doing this one more time and
taking the little one back offshore but it came swiftly back to the port
unnoticed. The villagers thinking they could return the baby back to the
open sea but it continued to come back to the port area like before. This
time it came into the shallows of Aharen Beach near the fishing port and
it was stuck there struggling. The villagers then led it out of the shallows
and out to the open sea, and finally let it free. The baby whale did not
come back to the port so the villagers were relieved that their success
could finally be realized. Unfortunately, the saddened villagers were informed
a few days later that the corpse of the little stray whale was found on
a beach upon a small island called Hanari Island just a little way from
Aharen Beach. |
