Opening Ceremony for Whale Channel


Opening Ceremony for Whale Channel is the essential part of Tokashiki tourism. It is held at the end of April every year. People are thankful for their beautiful ocean. The stage for the ceremony is set up on Aharen Beach, one of the IslandÕs scenic spots. The noros, spiritual mediators, on the island offer their prayers for safety. The declaration of opening the ocean is announced with the cooperation of Maritime Safety Agency. The ceremony is followed by various activities such as live concerts by guest musicians, tug of war, treasure hunt, and so on. Both islanders and tourists are welcome to join the event. The name of this event, ÒOpening Ceremony for Whale ChannelÓ has recently been adopted.
